Massage, or bodywork, is a great way to help your horse recover from an injury or hard ride by increasing the circulation to the afflicted area(s). The goal is to shorten the recovery time. An increase in circulation allows for more nutrients and oxygen to be delivered to the cells while at the same time removing waste. Horses are generally put on a maintenance schedule of every 4-6 weeks. If your horse has a specific issue or injury we can discuss a plan that fits your needs.
Red light therapy is a drug free, non invasive modality that uses red light and near infrared light waves. These waves penetrate the skin and activate the mitochondria of the cells and essentially kick them into over drive. The result is an increase of blood flow to the treated area. More blood flow means more oxygen and nutrients delivered to the cells while more effectively removing waste from those same cells.
In humans I've had clients tell me that they have felt a slight tingling sensation during their session; while others have told me it feels warm and relaxing. Some clients noticed an increase in range of motion afterwards when used on a stiff joint in addition to significant decrease in pain.
Red light is a great addition to your horse's massage as it is a relatively hands off way to increase blood flow. They will often yawn, lick, chew, snort, in addition to other releases, as they progress through their session. I also have the ability to target acupoints with my light which can help balance the body through various meridians that run internally.
I believe that every horse needs to be respectful on the ground before you ever climb on their back. You ride the horse you lead. This means that I spend a considerable amount of time making sure I can control their feet in every situation I can put them in. Once I feel they are solid citizens on the ground we carry that same philosophy to saddle work. Whether it is training clients or lesson folks we will spend time discussing what the individual's goals are and creating a step by step plan to achieve them.
I ride or work training horses 5/ 6 days a week. The contract includes one lesson per week for the owner so that you feel comfortable riding your horse once they leave my program. Haul in lessons are encouraged but I can travel to you if hauling is not an option (travel fees may apply).
I love my customers, so feel free to set up an appointment.
